Biosolids Quality Committee
Purpose
The Biosolids Quality Committee (formerly Pretreatment/Source Control) provides information to agencies
and the public on ways to achieve cleaner biosolids through process control.
The Committee encourages participation of current (active and inactive)
and potential members at meetings, conferences, and workshops. It promotes
comprehensive program implementation by members to reach the public.
Committee meetings
primarily focus on case studies and feature presentations by biosolids quality professionals with specific areas of expertise. The Committee
functions as a problem-solving network within the NBMA. Recent presentations
have included:
- The Domestic
Sewage Exclusion Act and authority for controlling discharges
- Industrial
wastewater conservation: prevention-oriented case studies and tools
for the pretreatment permit writer
- A local biohazard
waste management program
- Brewery and
microbrewery discharge characteristics and treatment plant effects
- Oil/water separator
technology and application
- Developing
an industrial waste discharge permit application
- The Washington
State Department of Ecology permit shell and World Wide Web site
- Proposed effluent
guidelines for metal products and machinery
- The Washington
State Department of Ecology/City of Spokane/Spokane County metals
reduction pilot project
- Determining
treatability under the Domestic Sewage Exclusion Provisions of WAC
173-303
- Using a treatability
database program
- Using additives
in the control of fats, oils and grease
